Security forces killed three terrorists while foiling an attack on an unoccupied construction company camp in Gwadar, while four police personnel, including a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) deputy superintendent of police, were martyred in a gunfight in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak district, Dawn, The Express Tribune and Geo News reported.
The two attacks, hundreds of kilometres apart, came on Thursday as Pakistan battles a rise in militant violence in both provinces.
Gwadar: an empty camp, burning trucks
The construction camp targeted in Gwadar was empty and no casualties were reported, officials said. The attackers belonged to Fitna al-Hindustan, the term the state uses for Balochistan-based groups such as the BLA to highlight what it says is Indian involvement in terrorism.
The attackers set fire to several trucks parked along a nearby road, officials told Dawn.
According to security sources quoted by Geo News, forces responded promptly and thwarted the bid to target the vacant camp. Three terrorists were killed, and forces surrounded three more at the site.
In a separate attempted attack, an operation was under way against terrorists hiding in a hotel near the Gwadar highway, where four had been surrounded, the sources said. The Gwadar general officer commanding was personally leading the operation on the ground, Radio Pakistan reported.
“Do not trust rumours”
Officials denied reports of attacks on security forces, intelligence agencies and their camps, describing claims circulating on social media as baseless. In a joint statement, the Gwadar administration and police said the situation in the BP-250 area and its surroundings was under control after timely action by the security forces and intelligence agencies.
The statement urged residents not to spread rumours and to rely on information issued by the police and government institutions.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the forces for killing three terrorists. “We are proud of the brave sons of the soil who are fighting against terrorists,” he said, adding that operations would continue until the terrorists and their facilitators were eliminated.
Karak: four policemen martyred
In Karak, police launched a search and strike operation in the Khurram Muhammad Zai area, within the limits of Latamber police station, after a tip-off, the Tribune reported. Armed men opened fire, and an exchange of fire followed.
Four policemen were martyred:
- CTD DSP Imranuddin Khan
- Sub-Inspector and SHO Afzal Awan
- Havaldar Kazim
- Head Constable Amjad
Police said two terrorists were killed when the force returned fire, Geo News reported. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the attack. “The blood of our martyrs will not go in vain,” he said.
Bannu: bomb wounds two civilians
In Bannu, terrorists opened fire on a police patrol within the limits of Merian police station. After police returned fire, a remote-controlled bomb planted in a motorcycle parked by the roadside exploded, wounding two civilians, the Tribune reported. The police party was unharmed.
Attacks nearly fourfold since 2022
Data from the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data project (ACLED), a global monitor, shows attacks in Pakistan rose nearly fourfold to 2,425 in 2025 from 658 in 2022. Over the same period, TTP attacks rose more than sevenfold to 838 from 118.
Pakistan recorded its highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years in September 2026, Geo News reported. Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to stop militants using Afghan soil to attack Pakistan.
Balochistan has seen a string of attacks. Last week, 20 trainee policemen were abducted while travelling between Kalat and Mastung, the Tribune reported. Earlier this month, Major Wajahat Waheed was martyred in Gwadar district. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the federal government has imposed an emergency, citing the security situation.
